Genisys Credit Union sponsored Habitat for Humanity’s Business Builds Hope event in the Ferry Farms neighborhood of Pontiac on Tuesday, Aug. 3. The Genisys Senior Management Team also provided manpower to help rebuild the interior and exterior of a home.
“This event was a great opportunity to not only help out a Pontiac family in need, but it was also a rewarding team-building activity for our senior managers to do together,” said Jackie Buchanan, chief executive officer.
“What could make more sense than a company that stands for household financial strength working alongside future homeowners building their dreams with their own hands?” said Brad Irwin, Habitat for Humanity Director of Partnerships. “You can see from the breadth and depth of Genisys Credit Union’s partnership with organizations like Habitat for Humanity that its people care about the community and each other.”
According to Habitat for Humanity, Business Builds Hope is an annual event that “brings together dozens of Oakland County businesses to build and fund homes for families in need of safe, decent, affordable housing.” This year’s goal was to raise $426,000 to build six homes.
As part of the rebuild, volunteers tore off siding, removed storm windows and countertops, disconnected outdated appliances, took apart interior doors and railings for repainting, pulled up flooring, insulated the exterior and prepared the material to be shipped to recycling centers.
“The amount of work that was done in one day was amazing,” said Buchanan. “It was great to be able to watch local businesses come together for a common cause and make a difference so quickly.”
