Varnum attorneys to serve on health board, moderate ethics seminar
Grand Rapids Varnum attorney April Sawhill has been appointed to the board of directors of Health Intervention Services (HIS).
Sawhill is a litigation and trial attorney with extensive experience in commercial disputes, insurance coverage disputes and personal injury.
HIS is a non-profit, faith-based health center that serves uninsured or underinsured residents of West Michigan. HIS was started in 1998 and has grown from a small group of volunteers to more than 130 volunteer physicians, nurses, dentists and social workers. The organization offers a wide range of services included medical, dental, counseling and spiritual care.
Sawhill also serves on the Michigan State Bar Awards Committee and is an executive member of Inforum. She also plays a key role in Varnum's diversity initiatives.
Kalamazoo-based Varnum attorney John W. Allen will serve as moderator of “Ethics 2010: Meeting Today's Challenges” for The Institute of Continuing Legal Education on Nov. 4.
The seminar will address the most up-to-date ethical dilemmas and how to handle the ethical issues that arise in a law practice  daily. The live seminar will take place at the Inn at St. John's, 44045 Five Mile Road, in Plymouth, from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The seminar will also be available as a live webcast for participants.  Visit www.icle.org/info/ethics for registration information.
Allen has more than 30 years experience practicing law and focuses his practice on business and commercial litigation. His affiliations include the State Bar Ethics and Grievance Committees (chair); he has written and co-written dozens of articles and books and speaks frequently to business and law groups.
