Court honors graduates

The Oakland County Adult Treatment Court (ATC) conducted its 26th graduation since its inception in 2001 on Wednesday, Oct. 20, at the Oakland County Courthouse in Pontiac. Oakland County Circuit Court Judge Joan Young, ATC (for males) presiding judge, presented a “Certificate of Graduation” to Gregory Baker.

A June 30, 2009, headline read, “Police: Addiction leads father, son on crime spree.”

Baker and his son admitted it was a heroin addiction that prompted their crimes. Both faced multiple counts of breaking and entering and larceny.

The elder Baker recalls that this was one of the lowest times of his life and now more than 17 months after being sentenced to ATC, he proudly relays his clean date as June 17, 2009 (the day of his arrest) and is verbal of his gratitude in being able to find comfort in completing community service for a local church in an effort to make amends. Equally important, Baker can now be a positive role model for his son.
