Firm hosts dinner in honor of General Counsel of India

The India Legal Team from Miller, Canfield, Paddock, & Stone PLC hosted a private dinner reception with special guest Mukta D. Tomar (second from left), Consul General of India in Chicago, on Thursday, March 24, at The Townsend Hotel in Birmingham.

The evening discussion included promoting trade between India and the United States, the current business climate of India, and recent changes to the Indian budget.

Welcoming Tomar to the reception were (left to right) Miller Candfield Principal Richard Walawender, Miller Canfield Principal Brad Arbuckle, and Miller Candfield Associate Gurinder Singh.

“The goal of the evening is for Mrs. Mukta D. Tomar to meet with local business community leaders who are either doing business now in India or would like to do business in India in the future,” noted Singh.

Prior to her appointment as consul general of India in Chicago in August 2010, Tomar served as deputy high commissioner of India to Bangladesh. She has held diplomatic assignments in Indian Embassies in Madrid, Kathmandu, Paris, and Yangon, and has also served at the Permanent Mission of India to the United Nations at New York. In the Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi, she worked in the Americas Division. She has also headed the Investment & Technology Promotion & Economic Division in the Ministry.

The India Team at Miller Canfield represents multinational companies as well as progressive, closely held small to mid-sized companies. Lawyers provide global business services including establishing operations, investing in emerging enterprises, or outsourcing products and services in India.
