Wayne Law welcomes Rita Gordon as director of business affairs

DETROIT, MI--Wayne State University Law School is pleased to announce that Rita Gordon has joined the staff as director of the Law School's Business Affairs Office. Her responsibilities include financial and budgetary management, development of strategic plans and general administration. "We are pleased to welcome Rita Gordon to the Law School," said Wayne Law Dean Robert M. Ackerman. "The Business Affairs Office plays an essential role in the successful day-to-day operations of Wayne Law. I have no doubt that Rita's knowledge and experience will help increase efficiency and effectiveness so that we can better serve our students, faculty, staff, alumni and community." Gordon brings to the Law School more than two decades of experience in business administration and finance. She most recently served as director of auxiliary services at the University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW) where she was responsible for providing vision, profit and expense oversight, policy development and creative marketing direction for a wide variety of distinct retail and support business units. Her major accomplishments included implementing a community service initiative, securing the first electric campus vehicles, receiving the Loyal E. Horton Award for a sustainable dining event, and entering a partnership with the NC 10 Percent Campaign to purchase a minimum of 10 percent of the campus's produce and meats from North Carolina farmers. Previous to her appointment at UNCW, Gordon served as business director of auxiliary services at Northern Michigan University. ''I am excited to join the Wayne State University Law School team and look forward to supporting the vision Dean Ackerman and the faculty have conceived for Wayne Law,'' Gordon said. Gordon recently authored "Making Auxiliary Services Team Building Sizzle!" for NACAS College Services and is a subject matter expert to regional media on sustainability, culinary and farm-to-fork topics. She is an active member of the National Association of College Auxiliary Services, the National Association of College and University Business Officers, and the National Association of College and University Food Services. Gordon earned an M.B.A. and a bachelor's in business administration-marketing from Lake Superior State University, and she is pursuing a doctoral degree in educational leadership from Western Michigan University.
