Patterson and Bouchard to host 9/11 ceremonies
Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson invites residents to join him and Oakland County employees at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 11, to honor 9/11 victims on the tenth anniversary of the terrorist attacks in a solemn remembrance ceremony on the south side of the Oakland County Courthouse in front of the west wing extension. The courthouse is located at 1200 North Telegraph in Pontiac.
Following the event, Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard will host the annual Michigan Fallen Heroes Ceremony to commemorate the names of Michigan police officers and fire fighters who have lost their lives in the past year. That observance will take place at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Michigan Fallen Heroes Memorial Site on the Oakland County government campus.
"These poignant observances will be an opportunity for Oakland County residents to honor real American heroes," said Patterson. "We will never forget the sacrifice of those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001 or Michigan police and fire fighters who have given their lives in the line of duty."
The 2 p.m. remembrance ceremony will include a large American flag which will be hung on the face of the courthouse building. At the 3 p.m. Michigan Fallen Heroes Ceremony, the names of Michigan's police and fire personnel whom we have lost over the past year will be unveiled; Michigan first responders who traveled to Ground Zero on September 11, 2001 will also be honored.
