Quicken Loans moving more workers into Detroit
DETROIT (AP) -- Online retail mortgage lender Quicken Loans Inc. plans to start moving another 2,000 employees to offices in Detroit from the suburbs in about two weeks.
Quicken founder and chairman Dan Gilbert told the Detroit Free Press editorial board on Monday that the move is nudging downtown Detroit closer to what he calls a tipping point for revitalization. The move will double Quicken's current downtown workforce.
Gilbert says he's also working to attract retailers to long-vacant storefronts in downtown. And he says he probably plans to buy more downtown real estate.
Quicken's headquarters is located in downtown.
