AWARE additions celebrated
The completion of renovation work at AWARE, INC., 706 West Michigan Avenue in Jackson, was celebrated with a ribbon cutting ceremony last week. AWARE, Inc., strives to eliminate domestic and sexual violence while promoting social change and empowering survivors by offering shelter and services.
Along with emergency shelter, AWARE, Inc. assists survivors of domestic and sexual violence and almost half of those served are children. "In order to give those children a place where they are welcome and comfortable, AWARE, Inc. needed to turn the former living room into a children's area. The former dining room was then turned into a room where women without children can go for tranquility," a spokesperson said.
United Way's Women's Leadership Council (WLC) helped out with the renovations and the Jackson BPW and Harriet A. Myer BPW organizations donated a Wii and other games for the children's area.
