Renewal of sheriff contract, expansion of warning system announced

On Thursday, Dec. 15, the Oakland County Board of Commissioners unanimously passed a resolution renewing the law enforcement service agreement with the Charter Township of Highland at the Board of Commissioners meeting. For several years, the Oakland County Sheriff's Office has provided patrol services in the township. "By renewing this agreement which goes into effect beginning January 1 -December 31, 2012, we will continue the great working relationship and superb policing that the Sheriff's Office has for several years provided the township," stated Commissioner Bob Hoffman, who went on to explain, "This new agreement includes a cost-savings with the deletion of one lieutenant and one deputy II position." Also on Dec. 15, the Board of Commissioners approved the Severe Weather Warning System Interlocal Agreement with Rose Township. In this agreement, the county and Rose Township will share the costs of purchasing sirens that will be used to expand the Oakland County Outdoor Warning System. The county will pay twenty-five percent and Rose Township will pay seventy-five percent of the costs for the four sirens. The county will be responsible for the maintenance and electrical costs for the sirens, and also received federal grants to offset a portion of the purchasing costs. "This agreement demonstrates the importance of collaborative efforts between the county and community's like Rose Township. It shows the benefits of pooling our resources together," stated Hoffman who serves Rose Township. Published: Tue, Dec 27, 2011
