The International Law Section (ILS) of the State Bar of Michigan conducted a Council Meeting and Program on Wednesday, Jan. 25, at the Detroit Offices of Butzel Long.
Guest speaker Frank E. Walwyn (third from right) of Toronto’s WeirFoulds LLP spoke on “Multi-Jurisdictional Litigation: Some Lessons Learned.”
Welcoming Walwyn to the program were (left to right) ILS Chair-Elect Jeff Paulsen, ILS Council Member Aaron Ogletree, ILS Chair Margaret Dobrowitsky, ILS Secretary Reed Newland, and Nadia Chiesa of WeirFoulds LLP.
“This is simply an overview of what international litigation entails, certainly vis-a-vis North America, the Caribbean, and London,” noted Walwyn. “We’ll talk about the practicalities, the challenges that practitioners face, some of the pitfalls that you can get caught by, and some of the benefits and advantages that you can apply to getting results for your clients when you’re in a global setting in terms of international disputes.”
