Grand welcomed to federal bench

On Monday, Jan. 30, the U.S. District Court, Eastern District of Michigan, conducted a formal investiture ceremony for new Magistrate Judge David R. Grand (left) at the Theodore Levin U.S. Courthouse in Detroit.

Welcoming Grand to the federal bench was U.S. District Court Judge Bernard A. Friedman (right).

Grand was one of five persons nominated by a court-appointed Merit Selection Panel from among 72 applicants.  The panel was chaired by attorney Thomas G. McNeill.

Grand earned his undergraduate degree from Indiana University and his law degree from University of Michigan Law School.

He was previously an attorney with the law firm of Miller, Canfield, Paddock, & Stone PLC in Ann Arbor.

He will sit in Ann Arbor filling the vacancy created by the retirement of Magistrate Judge Virginia M. Morgan.
