Official ice cream: 'Pure Michigan Caramel Apple'
LIVONIA (AP) -- The taste tests are in, and "Pure Michigan Caramel Apple" has been selected as the official state park ice cream.
The Michigan Department of Natural Resources says the winner was selected last month in Livonia. The flavor idea came from Dawn Dummer of Houghton Lake. She says she submitted it because she's proud of Michigan.
The department says 11-year-old Lexi Loehfelm of Ada Township, 12-year-old Noah Ekdom of Roscommon, and 15-year-old Jimmy McGrath of Carleton were judges along with Grand Rapids-based Meijer Inc.'s Corporate Research Chef Ray Sierengowski.
The state and its "Pure Michigan" tourism campaign are partnering with Hudsonville Ice Cream of Holland to produce the treat. The company says samples will be available at Meijer, other retail outlets and ice cream parlors around the Midwest.
