Jackson area residents invited to help direct public policy at 'Repealer Blitz'

Local residents and business leaders who have firsthand experience with Michigan laws or regulations that are hindering economic growth are encouraged to attend a special town hall meeting from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on Monday, March 19 at the Baker College Welcome Center, 2800 Springport Road. The event is part of a series of forums planned throughout Michigan to give residents an opportunity to help direct public policy. Reps. Hugh Crawford, chair of the House Regulatory Reform Committee; and Wayne Schmidt, chair of the House Commerce Committee, will take ideas from residents about what state laws and regulations they think need to be eliminated. ''There could be many instances where state government is an impediment to economic vitality, but we need help from people on the front lines to root out as many of these bad laws as possible,'' said Rep. Mike Shirkey, R-Clarklake. ''This public forum is a unique opportunity for local residents to take an active role in the democratic process and help shape public policy.'' ''This is a great opportunity for residents and business owners to share their real-world experiences and help state government create a better business climate in Michigan,'' said Rep. Earl Poleski, R-Jackson. ''It's difficult for government to create jobs, but it can certainly hinder job growth with excessive or unneeded laws and regulations.'' Co-sponsors of the event include the Jackson County Chamber of Commerce, Onsted Chamber of Commerce, Napoleon Chamber of Commerce, Eaton Rapids Chamber of Commerce and Grass Lake Chamber of Commerce.
