Judge rules Detroit review team must appear in court

MASON, Mich. (AP) -- A Michigan judge who compelled a review team to hold public meetings on Detroit's finances has ordered its 10 members to appear before him in court.
Ingham County Circuit Judge William Collette last Thursday set a March 12 hearing after the team put together a five-member subcommittee to keep some of its talks private.
Collette ruled last month that the review team must meet in public to comply with the state Open Meetings Act.
The state was reviewing the latest order. Michigan Treasurer Andy Dillon has said the Open Meetings Act doesn't apply to the subcommittee. Dillon is a subcommittee member.
Gov. Rick Snyder appointed the team in December to decide whether a financial emergency exists in Detroit, a step that could lead to the appointment of an emergency manager.
