Two men sentenced in armored van robbery
DETROIT (AP) -- Two Detroit men have been sentenced in the holdup of an armored van in Macomb County's Sterling Heights.
The U.S. Attorney's office said last Friday that 22-year-old David Simpson received just over 12 years in prison while 21-year-old Deondre Washington was sentenced to nearly 11 years.
They pleaded guilty in November.
More than $300,000 was taken during the robbery last July when a Total Armored Car driver was forced out of a van at gunpoint. Simpson worked for the company and was familiar with that route.
Simpson and Washington were arrested after one reportedly bragged about the holdup. About half of the stolen money was recovered. Authorities said thousands of dollars had been spent on designer clothing and jewelry.
A third man, Fred Daniels, is awaiting sentencing.
