Civil contempt finding in bridge case lifted

DETROIT (AP) -- A judge has lifted a civil contempt of court finding against the owners of the Ambassador Bridge.
Wayne County Judge Prentis Edwards last Thursday said the owners have been complying with his orders to turn over part of a $230 million construction project on the U.S. side of the crossing to the Michigan Department of Transportation.
The Detroit Free Press reported that means Detroit International Bridge Co. officials no longer face the threat of more jail time.
In January, Edwards put 84-year-old billionaire bridge owner Manuel "Matty" Moroun and his top executive, Dan Stamper, in jail for contempt of court for failing to follow orders on the project, which includes connecting the bridge with Canada to area interstates. They were released by the Michigan appeals court.
