County dog licenses become delinquent June 1
Oakland County residents have until June 1 to renew their dog licenses. After that date, dog license fees increase to $30. In addition, dog owners caught with a delinquent license will be issued a citation which allows them 14 days to purchase a dog license to void the ticket. Failure to purchase the license will result in an appearance in district court where the fine is $65-$125.
All dogs over 4 months of age are required to wear an Oakland County license at all times by Michigan State law. In order to purchase a license, the owner must provide proof that the dog is up to date on rabies vaccinations. Dog licenses play a crucial role in reuniting lost pets with their owners by allowing OCAC quick access to the owner's records.
Until June 1, regular licenses cost $7.50 for altered and $15 for unaltered dogs. Senior discounts are available. After June 1, Oakland County dog licenses become delinquent and the price increases to $30 for all dogs. Animal Control Officers will begin the search for unlicensed dogs in June.
