In Seventh Heaven benefit for foster children set to be a night to remember
On Saturday, June 30, an expected crowd of up to five hundred people will fill one of Detroit's hottest nightspots in a benefit for an organization that supports foster children in Wayne County.
"In Seventh Heaven - Magic and Music in Motown" will take place at the Roostertail and feature the multiple-award winning Jill Jack Band, Grammy-nominated local jazz ensemble Straight Ahead, and a special art and photography exhibit from Park West Gallery and Kelly Ramsey Photography.
The event, which will begin at 7 p.m., is a benefit for For The Seventh Generation (www.fortheseventhgeneration.org), an organization that matches donors of goods and professional services to foster children in need in Wayne County. For The Seventh Generation is a project of the Detroit Metropolitan Bar Association Foundation in cooperation with the 3rd Judicial Circuit of Michigan and the Michigan Department of Human Services.
In Seventh Heaven will also see the launch of Play It Forward!, a new signature program in conjunction with Sonya Mastick, owner of the The Lesson Rooms in Royal Oak, to provide free music lessons and instruments to foster children.
While the reason for the event is a serious one, however, members of the event committee say that the benefit's focus will be fun.
"Imagine an evening of live music in one of Detroit's most popular venues. Imagine a sumptuous strolling supper, meeting your next employer or partner while enjoying an open beer and wine bar, and gathering with friends old and new to enjoy a special art exhibit by Park West Gallery and 'compete' to win one of many incredible prizes in a raffle created just for you," said event committee member Lorraine Weber of the Detroit Metropolitan Bar Association Foundation.
"That's the experience we're creating for this year's In Seventh Heaven -- fantastic, upbeat music, an opportunity for informal networking, and lots of activity including a raffle featuring fabulous prizes like spa getaways, fine artwork, and even two guitars signed by Kid Rock!"
The event will be hosted by multiple Detroit Music Award-winning emcee and DJ Linda Lexy, host of the weekly show "Linda Lexy's Party Train" broadcast live from the MotorCity Casino/Hotel's Radio Bar.
"During In Seventh Heaven we'll be gathering for a fun and informal evening to celebrate the bounty in our lives and to share that bounty with children in need, as well as helping For The Seventh Generation prepare to help more children than ever before," said DMBA Foundation Trustee Chris Johnson. "I'm thrilled to see how far this program has come, and I can't wait to spend a lively evening in the company of so many old and new friends!"
In addition to event and raffle ticket sales, In Seventh Heaven's organizers are working to raise money from people and organizations to sponsor the annual event -- work that is proving to be very successful. Sponsors including Charity Motors, GEM Asset Management, and the Thomas M. Cooley School of Law have joined the Schwartz Organization with Funky D Records, Matthew Belcher, and Vincent Mastrovito of Luminous Wealth Management, who together have contributed more than $17,000 to date in support of the event. Charity Motors alone has become a "Bono" -- level contributor with a contribution of $10,000.
"We're very appreciative of our sponsors, whether they give at any of our donation levels from $500 - $10,000," said Weber. "By supporting For The Seventh Generation, they are ultimately making our entire community a better place to live."
Tickets for "In Seventh Heaven -- Magic and Music in Motown" are $100 per person and are available online through the For The Seventh Generation website at www.fortheseventhgeneration.org.
