Michigan played a key role in the Union triumph in the American Civil War, saving the Nation and ushering in a new birth of freedom--and Michigan women made it possible. From holding together the home front, launching soldier aid societies, giving battlefield support, and violating custom and regulation by serving in uniform, female Michiganders stopped at nothing short of victory.
The mission of the MWHOF is to inspire and engage adults and children by celebrating Michigan women's history, promoting educational opportunities, and honoring the accomplishments of Michigan women. The MWHOF is home to the Michigan Women's Hall of Fame featuring 258 inductees, changing history exhibits, the Belen Art Gallery featuring Michigan women artists, and a unique gift shop featuring Fair Trade items created by women's collectives.
