Detroit People Mover marks 25 years of service
DETROIT (AP) -- The downtown Detroit People Mover is marking its 25th anniversary with a series of events.
The Detroit Transportation Corp. says today is "People Mover Day" as part of the Greektown Casino Mid-Day Music showcase at Campus Martius Park. There will be events outside and a People Mover photo retrospective in the Compuware Building atrium.
Today, retailers, restaurants and others near the 13-stop, 2.9-mile elevated train loop will be offering specials and discounts. It is part of a "Stick Around Downtown" promotion aimed at drawing more people to business district.
