On August 15, immigrant rights advocates will host free workshops in Detroit, Lansing and Kalamazoo to help educate younger immigrants about the new “DREAM Relief” program and help begin the process of seeking work permits and freedom from prosecution.
Lawyers and other community volunteers will be on hand to lay the groundwork needed to move through the process. The workshops will take place the first day the federal government will accept applications from undocumented youth for a temporary work permit and protection from deportation for two years.
Participants or volunteers can find more information or register at http://bit.ly/midreamrelief
The Kalamazoo workshop will be at St. Joseph’s Church, 930 Lake Street, and the Lansing event will take place at Cristo Rey Church, 201 West Miller Road. Both events run frmo 3:00 to 8:00 p.m.
The events are co-sponsored by the Alliance for Immigrants Rights, the Michigan Organizing Project, the Consortium of Hispanic Agencies, ACCESS, LA SED, the Piast Institute, the International Institute, Gamaliel of Lansing, the Office of Congressman John Conyers, and the United Auto Workers.
