Oakland Children's Village songwriters showcase their work
On Friday, Aug. 31, at 3:30 p.m., forty young songwriters will take to the stage. Supported by a team of veteran professional musicians, they will showcase their work in a concert at Waterford Kettering High School. These talented kids are all residents of Oakland Children's Village and participants in Lost Voices.
The Lost Voices program is designed to bring troubled or at-risk kids together in workshops with professional folk and blues musicians to take a musical journey through some of their deepest feelings and ideas.
Mike Ball, an award-winning columnist, singer/songwriter, and the founder of Lost Voices, will be the show's master of ceremonies. "These concerts are an amazing payoff for the kids," said Ball. "They will have the terrifying experience of baring their souls to the world, and the really cool experience of having the world award them for it with applause."
Teaming up with Ball for both the workshops and the boncert will be folk singer Josh White, Jr. and Celtic-inspired singer/songwriter Kitty Donohoe. Donohoe performed at the 911 dedication ceremony at the Pentagon.
