House unanimously passes Patriot Week resolution
The Michigan House of Representatives last week unanimously passed a resolution designating Sept. 11--Sept. 17 as Patriot Week. Patriot Week was co-created by Oakland County Circuit Court Judge Michael Warren and his now 13-year-old daughter Leah in 2009.
Patriot Week renews America's spirit by celebrating the First Principles, Founding Fathers and other Patriots, vital documents and speeches, and flags that make America the greatest nation in world history. Patriot Week is anchored by the key dates of Sept. 11 (the anniversary of the terrorist's attacks) and Sept. 17 (Constitution Day, the anniversary of when the United States Constitution was signed).
Participants include schools, community organizations, rotaries, colleges, and others. Activities have included lesson plans, assemblies, mock trials, panel discussions, movie showings, festivals, Patriot Paloozas!, and others. Patriot Week participants are located in several states, and the New York Senate recently recognized the week as well.
"We really appreciate the Michigan House's leadership on this issue," said Leah Warren. "Patriot Week excites students and the general public to learn about--and celebrate--what makes America the greatest nation in world history."
"House passage of the Patriot Week resolution puts Michigan in a national leadership position in renewing the American spirit," remarked Judge Warren. "All Americans need to take time to remember what keeps us free, and Patriot Week is vital to renewing the American spirit. If we are to maintain our liberty in a free republic, our citizens must have a deeply rooted understanding of our Constitution, its generating history, and its underlying First Principles."
Warren is the presiding judge of the General Civil/Criminal Division of the Oakland County Circuit Court, and chair of Cornerstone Schools Association and Patriot Week Inc. To learn more about Patriot Week, visit PatriotWeek.org.
