Clerk delivers one-page ballots on time, saves taxpayers $275,000
Oakland County Clerk Bill Bullard was happy to report this week that absentee ballots for the November General Elections have been delivered to clerks meeting state and federal deadlines.
Through the hard work and ingenuity of the Elections Division staff, Oakland County was able to avoid having any two-page ballots which has increased the cost of the election in other communities throughout Michigan. Estimates from the Elections Division estimate the avoidance of two-page ballots will save Oakland County taxpayers $275,000.
"Saving the taxpayers money is a top priority for our office," said Bullard. "The avoidance of two-page ballots in Oakland County will save hundreds of thousands of dollars and reduce confusion and opportunities for errors. I am pleased and proud of the good work of our team."
Ballots must be available for military and overseas voters at least 45 days prior to an election in order meet federal guidelines. This deadline was met. Local clerks also have received their ballots and will be in the process of mailing them to voters this week.
Voters interested in obtaining an absentee ballot should contact their local clerk or can download the form from www.oakgov.com/clerkrod and follow the link to elections.
