A host committee has been formed to honor Oakland County 52-4 District Court (Troy and Clawson) Judge Dennis C. Drury, who will retire at the end of 2012. The retirement event will be hosted at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 8, at the San Marino Club, 1685 East Big Beaver in Troy. The evening will feature cocktails, dinner, entertainment and a short program.
Drury was appointed to the court in 1984 by the then-Governor James J. Blanchard. He graduated from Michigan State University and later the University of Michigan Law School. He then served in the United States Army and was a Michigan assistant attorney general before joining the firm of Andrews & Drury. When Judge Steven Andrews took the Circuit Court bench, Drury continued to practice law until he was assigned to the bench. He has been chief judge of the 52nd District Court and has served by assignment of the Michigan Supreme Court as an Oakland County Circuit judge of the “Drug Court.” Drury was master of the Oakland County Bar Association’s Inn of Court, and has been an associate professor of Business Law at Walsh College in Troy.
Drury has held numerous posts in both the State Bar of Michigan and the Oakland County Bar Association. Throughout the years, he has participated in numerous seminars for the Michigan Judicial Institute, the Michigan Municipal League, the Oakland County District Court Judges Association, and the Institution of Continuing Legal Education.
Drury has authored several law-related publications on business torts and the impact of drugs of the criminal justice system. He has been involved with several community organizations focusing on Troy’s youth and senior citizens, and has been honored by the Troy community as well as several law organizations. He was recently recognized with the 2012 Distinguished Jurist Award by the Women’s Bar Association.
