Woman linked to sour Detroit loan turns self in
DETROIT (AP) -- A woman linked to a sour investment made by a public pension fund in Detroit has turned herself in to authorities in Florida.
The Detroit News reports Teresa Kastanes was escorted off a plane Tuesday morning in Fort Lauderdale by agents from the Office of Homeland Security after flying from Managua, Nicaragua. She appeared in court and was released after being ordered to turn over her passport.
Her lawyer Joseph Brien says he didn't know she was in Nicaragua.
Her husband George Kastanes was arrested earlier this year. Judge Raymond Ray ordered their arrest in March, saying the couple repeatedly failed to appear in his court in Fort Lauderdale.
Court documents say the Detroit police and fire pension fund lent $10 million to a company linked to them.
