Oakland commissioner announces Small Business Saturday

Oakland County Commissioner Nancy Quarles encourages Oakland County residents to join the rest of the nation and patronize local small businesses as a part of Small Business Saturday on Nov. 24.
The objective of Small Business Saturday is to stimulate the economy, help small businesses and have money circulate in the community beginning the Saturday after Thanksgiving. Quarles explains the importance of the Small Business Saturday concept by stating: "The first step to stimulate the economy is to support and patronize the businesses in our community. These small businesses can create jobs and sustain our municipalities."
Small Business Saturday Facts:
1) Small businesses are the backbone to the economy and the glue that holds communities together. They encompass 28 million businesses in the United States.
2) Small businesses have created 65% of the net new jobs in the nation for the last two decades, according to the United States Small Business Administration.
Quarles is a Democrat who represents the community of Southfield in District #23. She is a former state representative.
