OBITUARY

Michael A. Novak
Michael A. Novak passed away on Sunday, Jan. 27, from a heart attack. He was 57 years of age. He was Of Counsel at the law firm of Giarmarco, Mullins, & Horton PC in Troy.
Novak has been counseling clients in the entertainment industry for more than 25 years. He was a member of the State Bar of Michigan and the State Bar of California. In addition to civil litigation experience, his practice included the representation of corporate executives and transactional work on behalf of recording artists, personal managers, concert promoters and facilities, writers, visual artists, producers, and the representation of radio and television personalities and other high-profile individuals.
He was a founding board member of the Purple Rose Theater in Chelsea, Michigan (Executive Director Jeff Daniels) and a member of the Detroit Institute of Arts Cinematic Arts Council. Novak was a frequent lecturer at law schools nationwide on various Entertainment Law topics.
He was a graduate of New York University, B.F.A (film major, 1977) and Wayne State University School of Law (1980). He was admitted to practice Michigan 1980 and California 1985.
Novak is survived by his wife, Loretta Ames.
