Help desk assists pro se litigants at Oakland County Courthouse
The Oakland County Bar Association and Legal Aid and Defender Association Inc. (LAD) are jointly sponsoring a help desk for pro se litigants at the Oakland County Courthouse.
The help desk is open on Thursdays from noon to 2 p.m. in the lobby of the north entrance of the courthouse, 1200 N. Telegraph Road in Pontiac. Pro se litigants--litigants acting as their own attorneys--can obtain legal information and referrals there on a first-come, first-served basis from LAD staff attorneys or attorneys in private or corporate practice who are volunteering their time pro bono.
"Court officials can't provide legal advice or referrals to pro se litigants," said Kelly L. Bidelman, managing attorney of LAD's Oakland County office in Pontiac. "However, the help desk can provide timely legal information and referrals to these litigants. And we're helping the court by reducing officials' workloads."
For additional information on the help desk, call LAD's Oakland County office at (248) 253-1548.
