Group wants judge's Facebook ruling overturned

DEARBORN (AP) — A consumer advocacy group objects to a judge ordering a Detroit area man to remove comments critical of a restaurant class-action lawsuit on his Facebook page.

Public Citizen said last Friday that Wayne County Circuit Judge Kathleen Macdonald’s ruling violates the First Amendment. The group filed a motion to have the injunction removed.

The McDonald’s restaurant chain and one of its franchise owners agreed last month to pay $700,000 to members of Detroit’s Muslim community and organizations following allegations that meat on its menu was falsely advertised as being prepared according to Islamic dietary law.

Majed Moughni of Dearborn wants others to share the settlement and placed critical posts on Facebook about the tentative deal.

McDonald’s and Finley’s Management Co. deny liability but say the settlement is in their best interests.
