Freeway shootings case headed to trial, March 27
HOWELL (AP) -- A man charged in a series of shootings on and off Interstate 96 in Michigan has waived a probable cause hearing, sending the case to trial.
Raulie Casteel had been scheduled for a March 27 preliminary examination on charges of terrorism, assault with intent to murder and five felony firearm counts.
But the 43-year-old from Wixom on Monday waived his right to the hearing during a pretrial conference in Howell District Court.
Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette is prosecuting the case for Livingston, Shiawassee and Ingham counties.
Casteel also faces charges in Oakland County, where local authorities are prosecuting him apart from the state's attorney general.
Two dozen shootings occurred last fall in the four-county area. One man was injured.
Defense attorneys say Casteel is married with no criminal history.
