Wayne Law professor to speak during State of the Detroit River Boat Tour

Join Canada's Citizens Environment Alliance--and Wayne State University Law School Professor Nick Schroeck--on Saturday, July 13, when the nonprofit international group conducts its annual State of the Detroit River Boat Tour 2013. Schroeck, who teaches the Transnational Environmental Law Clinic -- a partnership between Wayne Law and the University of Windsor Law School and the first of its kind in North America --and also is executive director of the Great Lakes Environmental Law Center, is one of the featured speakers for the boat tour. The trip will take place aboard the Macassa Bay cruise ship which will leave the dock next to the performance stage at Windsor Riverfront Plaza at noon, rain or shine, and return at 4 p.m. The cost of the tour is $30 which includes lunch. Another featured speaker will be John Hartig, manager of the Detroit River International Wildlife Refuge and author of the award-winning book "Burning Rivers: Revival of Four Urban-Industrial Rivers that Caught on Fire." Other speakers will be Phil Roberts of the Essex County Field Naturalists Club and a representative of the Canadian Environmental Law Association. Peter Werbe, host of talk show "Nightcall" on WRIF-FM radio and a morning interview radio program on WCSX-FM and WMGC-FM, will serve as master of ceremonies. The experts will point out some of the Detroit River's environmental hot spots and its unique fish and wildlife habitats. "This is an excellent opportunity to see why we must continue to value this special river and do what we can to protect it," Schroeck said. Tickets can be purchased online www.citizensenvironmentalliance.org/tour13.html or by contacting the CEA at ceaadmin@cogeco.net or 519-973-1116. Published: Wed, Jun 26, 2013
