Woman charged in attack on parents found competent
WYOMING, Mich. (AP) -- A 28-year-old West Michigan woman charged in an attack on her parents with a hatchet and knife has been found competent to stand trial.
The Grand Rapids Press reports Amber Wilson is due in court July 17 for a hearing to determine whether there's enough evidence to send the case to trial. She earlier was deemed incompetent, but that was changed following a recent psychiatric exam.
Records say Wilson told her 63-year-old mother and 74-year-old stepfather that they were "going to die" before swinging a hatchet at them in Wyoming on March 6. Wilson was charged with attempted murder and felonious assault after the attack.
Police say the parents escaped and flagged down a patrol car early Wednesday. Injuries from the attack weren't life-threatening.
