Michigan jobless rate up 0.3 points to 8.4 percent

LANSING (AP) -- The state says Michigan's seasonally adjusted jobless rate has risen 0.3 percentage points to 8.7 percent in the latest month as the size of the workforce grew faster than the number of people employed. The Department of Technology, Management & Budget released the June job report Wednesday. May's unemployment rate of 8.4 percent was unchanged from April. The rate has dropped 0.6 percentage points from June 2012's 9.3 percent. Michigan's jobless rate remains higher than the nation's June rate of 7.6 percent, which was unchanged from May. The department says total Michigan employment rose 9,000 in June to 4.311 million, while the labor force rose by 21,000 to 4.719 million.
