Batch Brewing wins Hatch Detroit contest
DETROIT (AP) -- Batch Brewing Co. has won the 2013 Comerica Hatch Detroit Contest and is getting a $50,000 grand prize.
The win announced last Thursday night in Detroit came after two weeks of public voting and deliberation from a panel of judges. Batch Brewing pitched an idea for a nano-brewing company, making their own beer while seeking to help other small breweries.
The contest sought first-time and experienced entrepreneurs to submit retail concepts that would resonate with the public. Comerica Bank put up the $50,000 prize for the winning business idea and is providing other support to further Hatch Detroit's efforts.
In addition to the cash prize, the winner gets a package of services including legal, marketing and advertising, accounting and tech support.
This year's contest got about 200 submissions.
