Golf event supports Police Benevolent Association

Oakland County Commissioner Bill Dwyer recently announced that the 19th Annual Farmington Hills Police Benevolent Association's Golf Classic will be held Friday, Sept. 6, at the Links of Novi Golf Course located at 50395 West Ten Mile Road in Novi. The event begins at noon with a shotgun start and is going to be well attended with more than 200 reservations, making it a sold-out event. Dwyer and Oakland County 47th District Court Judge Jim Brady co-chair this annual event, promoting the association which was formed in 1994 after two Farmington Hills Police officers' untimely passing before they reached eligibility for pensions which left their families and widowers without benefits. This spurred the creation of the Farmington Hills Benevolent Association. The association is a 501(c)(3) of which 100% of all funds are provided to families. Since its inception, the association has provided funds to help families with health, educational and financial needs not only in Farmington Hills but also public safety families throughout Southeast Michigan. The Farmington Hills Police Benevolent Association is an all volunteer organization with no paid positions. Dwyer, the former police chief for the City of Farmington Hills, has been actively involved with the association since founding it in 1994. He serves as president of the Farmington Hills Police Benevolent Association and encourages donations for the raffle and live auction. WDIV's Bernie Smilovitz and John Ginopolis of Ginopolis on the Grill will be conducting the Golf Classic's raffle and live auction. All proceeds from the event will benefit families of fallen and injured police officers and firefighters. To donate, contact Dwyer at 248-417-7500 or email him at wdwyer@mi.rr.com.
