Cooley Law School and Oakland University’s Political Science Department and Honors College hosted a panel discussion to commemorate Constitution Day on Wednesday, Sept. 18, in the Heritage Room of Oakland Center on Oakland University’s Campus.
The interactive discussion, which was open to the public, centered on the U.S. Supreme Court’s recent decision striking down a provision of the Defense of Marriage Act.
The provision denied legally married same-sex couples federal benefits.
The presentation featured (left to right) Jay Kaplan, ACLU of Michigan LGBT Project staff attorney; Cooley Constitutional Law professor Dan Ray; and Cooley Professor and Acting Assistant Dean Frank Aiello, panel moderator.
