On Thursday, Sept. 19, Oakland County Commissioners presented a $400 check to Clawson-Troy Optimist Club President Rocco Romano (center) as a result of Commissioner Mike Bosnic (far right) winning the Third Annual “Commissioners Count Your Steps Charity Competition.”
Happy to take part in the check presentation were (left to right) Commissioner Phil Weipert, Commissioner John A. Scott, and Board Vice Chairman Jeff Matis who all participated in the competition.
The board members each recorded their steps which were tracked with pedometers. They each pledged a $100 contribution to the charity of choice for the commissioner who logged the most steps.
Bosnic won the challenge after recording 341,706 steps on his pedometer and overcame a 10,000 step deficit to Weipert entering the final week of the competition to earn back-to-back titles for a second consecutive year.
“Once again, I commend my colleagues on the Board for promoting fitness and generating funds for a worthy cause,” Bosnic stated.
The Clawson-Troy Optimist Club will put 100% of the funds toward a scholarship for a worthy high school student. In the past two years, Bosnic has generated $900 in scholarship monies for the Club through his participation in the challenges.
Following in the tradition of his predecessor, former Commissioner Chuck Palmer, who funded many scholarships for this group throughout the years, Bosnic expressed his commitment by stating, “I am happy to try to follow in his footsteps.”
