Gov. signs bill on business improvement zones

LANSING (AP) -- Gov. Rick Snyder has signed a bill updating the state's business improvement zones, which are designed to help revitalize communities. Snyder's office announced Wednesday that the signed bill modifies existing law by streamlining the process to establish a zone. It also authorizes zones to merge with other zones, and Snyder said in a statement it will "help revitalize Michigan's urban centers ... and enhance the quality of living." The zones are funded by businesses to improve an area, provide growth opportunities and increase local property values. Snyder also signed four other bills, including one spelling out procedures for landlords who believe a tenant has passed away and another that provides $747,300 in federal grant money to complete the Port Austin State Harbor west dock renovation project. ---------------- Online: http://www.legislature.michigan.gov.
