Attorneys to present webinar series on CMS final rule

Jessica Gustafson and Abby Pendleton, founding shareholders of The Health Law Partners (The HLP), will present a three-part webinar series on The Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services' (CMS) New 2-Midnight Rule for Inpatient Admissions. Founding Shareholder Adrienne Dresevic made the announcement. In partnership with GPS For Hospitals, an intensive coaching program and system for hospital compliance professionals, Gustafson and Pendleton will serve as presenters and coaches throughout the webinar that will cover all aspects of this new ruling, including certification and orders, benchmark and presumption, and rebilling issues. Recognized as leaders in health law, Pendleton and Gustafson co-lead the firm's Recovery Audit Contractor (RAC) and Medicare practice group and have been instrumental in The HLP's growth as a national firm. Together, they have successfully appealed hundreds of RAC claim denials for hospitals, inpatient rehabilitation facilities and physicians, as well as thousands of other Medicare claim denials (e.g., ZPIC and MAC post-payment audits). Pendleton has devoted 17 years of legal practice to defending Medicare and Medicaid audits of all types. In addition to a robust practice, Gustafson and Pendleton routinely publish articles and speak on RAC audits at industry events and organizations throughout the country. Gustafson has been practicing exclusively in health care law for the past 8 years and earned her law degree from Wayne State University Law School. For the past two years, Super Lawyers recognized Gustafson with their Michigan Rising Star award. She is an active member of the American Health Lawyers Association, American Bar Association-Health Law Section and the Michigan Bar Association - Health Law Section. Gustafson is the vice-chair of the ABA Physician Issues Interest Group. She specializes in a number of areas, including: RAC, Medicare, Medicaid and other payor audit appeals, healthcare regulatory matters, compliance matters, reimbursement and contracting matters. She is a frequent contributor to numerous health care professional and legal publications and routinely speaks nationwide on health care legal topics. Pendleton is the president of The HLP and has been practicing exclusively in health care law for 17 years. She earned her law degree from Wayne State University Law School. Pendleton is an active member of the American Bar Association-Health Law Section, American Health Lawyers Association, Medical Group Management Association, the State Bar of Michigan-Health Law Section and the New York State Bar Association- Health Law Section.
