Task force re-established

The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children promoted the campaign against sexual exploitation at a Special Stakeholder Meeting hosted by Oakland County Commissioner Janet Jackson (second from right) on Monday, Oct. 28, at the Southfield Field Zone.

Among those participating in the meeting were (left to right) Oakland County Commissioner Marcia Gershenson, Exploited Children’s Outreach Diversity Coordinator Russell Petty, and Michigan State Police Detective Sgt. Edward Price.

“Due to the most arrests during the recent nationwide sweep, with Detroit ranking second in the country, and Southfield and Madison Heights having the highest arrests—there needs to be a multi-agency initiative coordinated to address this growing problem in our county,” Jackson stated.

The goal of the meeting was to re-establish an Oakland County Prevention of Sexual Exploitation of Children Task Force which would include human trafficking.

Others invited to attend and participate in the first information sharing meeting included representatives from HAVEN, Youth Assistance, Michigan State Police Detective Sergeant Ed Price, Oakland County Sheriff’s Office’s Division of Sexual Exploitation and Human Trafficking, Southfield Police, and Oakland County Children’s Village.
