Military Family Law training offered

Please mark your calendar for the “Military Family Law” training session, to be held Friday, Nov. 22, from 12:30-4:30 p.m., in the education center at Fort Custer in Augusta, Mich.

This session is free to attendees through the sponsorship of Thomas M. Cooley Law School’s Service to Soldiers: Legal Assistance Referral Program and the Kalamazoo County Bar Association. This informative training session is designed to help law firms become military-friendly by covering family law topics that affect military families, including support formulas, pension divisions, proper service upon active duty servicemen and women, and stays for active duty and deployed troops.

Attendees will also learn about ways to support lower-income military personnel through pro bono service, and about the new Military and Veterans Law Section of the State Bar of Michigan. Court employees and non-practitioners are welcome to attend.

Due to security considerations, all participants must register by emailing Heather Spielmaker at spielmah@ cooley.edu or by calling 517-371-5140, ext. 4112.

Scheduled to appear are: Lt. Colonel John Wojcik, General Counsel, Michigan National Guard; Tom Hetchler, Michigan Veterans Law; Lori Herr, Heisler Family Law;  and Heather Spielmaker, Director - Thomas M. Cooley Law School.
