From the desk of Eric Schertzing, Ingham County Treasurer & Land Bank Chair
I had a great time riding a green Bike Share bike in the Silver Bells parade with the Tri County Bike Association group. Our Capital Community Bike Share demonstration with A2B BikeShare bikes is planned for a full three month trial in the Spring.
We have 23 amazing opportunities for lower income households to own a home. One of our funding sources limits the income of buyers. The renovated or new homes in Lansing are for folks at 50% of the Area Median Income or below. By example this is a family of 4 earning $33,000 or less. A 2 bedroom 1 bath, like new, bungalow on Comfort Street would have a total monthly payment as low as $435 (mortgage, property tax and insurance). To help prepare individuals for ownership we have set up a Home Buyer’s Club with the Center for Financial Health. Reach them at 517.708.2550 or www.centerforfinancialhealth.org.
Money Smart Week is April 5th thru 12th , 2014. The Federal Reserve in Chicago provides the framework and we work with local government and non-profits to create the useful classes. Let me know if you see a way to help. We have staff assistance to help coordinate activities. Check out www.moneysmartweek.org.
Last week we closed on the 58th Land Bank home sale of the year in Lansing! This makes 2013 a record setting year. Thanks to Cap Fund Title, our Realtors, Chris Kolbe and Denise Keiser for all their help….and the lenders!
Great progress has been made since the groundbreaking in late October on a multi-million dollar mixed use development by Gillespie Group where the Silver Dollar Saloon once stood on Michigan Avenue. And check out the Gillespie Group progress on the Market Place Development when you do your shopping at the Lansing City Market. Lots of great Holiday and local goods available at the market.
If you use Facebook to keep up, please remember to like the Ingham County Land Bank and Ingham County Treasurer.
As always, please contact me if there are questions or comments. Peace and Joy to all as we wrap up another year and look forward to the next.
