 Skidmore appointed to Broadway Grand Rapids board

David L.J.M. Skidmore, a partner with the law firm Warner Norcross & Judd LLP, has been appointed to serve a three-year term on the board of directors of Broadway Grand Rapids.

Broadway Grand Rapids brings quality Broadway productions to West Michigan. In partnership with Michigan State University’s Wharton Center for the Performing Arts, BGR works to enrich the diversity and artistic integrity of the community through professional performing arts. Through education programming, BGR strives to connect learners of all ages to the performing arts.
 
Skidmore concentrates his practice in probate litigation, with an emphasis on disputed estate, trust, fiduciary, guardianship and conservatorship matters.  He currently serves on the State Bar of Michigan’s
Probate and Estate Planning Council and chairs the Amicus Curiae Committee.  He is also a member of the American Bar Association and the Grand Rapids Bar Association.

Active in the community, Skidmore is board chair of the Widowed Persons Service and on the steering committee of the Hillman Advocacy Program as well as the board of Western MI Estate Planning Council. 
 
 

Update: Forest Heroes campaign meets with success

 
The campaign covered earlier in the Grand Rapids Legal News to ask the Kellogg Company to repudiate its palm oil partner Wilmar International’s practices causing global deforestation ?released the following:

Michiganders made their power felt halfway around the world, as Asian agribusiness giant Wilmar International announced strong new responsible practices following outcry about the impact of palm oil on Sumatran tiger habitat and tropical forests.

Said Deborah Lapidus, Campaigns Director of Catapult, an organization working with Forest Heroes,  “With a massive boost from determined advocacy of Michigan communities, Wilmar has announced it will implement a comprehensive policy to protect forests. And we are told a big reason why is that Kellogg’s picked up the phone and demanded action. Thank you, Kellogg’s, for listening to your ... neighbors.”

Wilmar’s announcement comes after months of input from Michigan communities and families on Kellogg’s, culminating in a rally and the delivery of thousands of petitions asking Kellogg’s to demand change from its corporate partner, Wilmar. Kellogg’s did just that, and change happened.
