The Book Club of the Federal Bar Association, Eastern District of Michigan Chapter, discussed “The Lawyer Bubble: A Profession in Crisis” by Steven J. Harper on Thursday, Dec. 12, at the Theodore Levin U.S. Courthouse in Detroit.
The club was able to have author Steven Harper (left, on screen) participating in the discussion via Skype. Happy to welcome Harper were FBA Book Club Committee co-chairs (left to right) Andrew S. Doctoroff of Michigan Strategic Fund; Erica Fitzgerald of Barris, Sott, Denn, & Driker PLLC; and David H. Fink of Fink + Associates Law.
“The book is about what I would call two gigantic problems in the profession—at least that’s what led me to write the book,” said Harper. “One has to do with the problem of attorney unhappiness which begins when lawyers come out of law school and can’t find jobs. The other has to do with the evolving model of the big firm in particular which has made the ability to have what I would call a satisfying life and career far more challenging.”
The primary goal of the Book Club is to facilitate an informal but elevated dialogue between the bench and bar. The club is non-partisan.
