New executive director named for OCBA

Terri Ticknor Gilbert has been named the new executive director of the Oakland County Bar Association and its charitable arm, the Oakland County Bar Foundation, and will assume her new post on Monday, Jan. 27. The Oakland County Bar Association (OCBA), with more than 3,000 lawyer members, serves the professional needs of its members and works to improve the quality of legal services to the public.

Gilbert most recently was director of child welfare funding and juvenile programs for the State of Michigan’s Department of Human Services.

Lisa Stadig Elliot, the organization’s current executive director, has remained on to assist with the transition. Having announced in the fall of 2013 her decision to resign the position to continue her education, the final day of her 13-year tenure will be Friday, Jan. 24.

“Terri Gilbert brings with her a depth of experience working in leadership-level positions within nonprofit organizations and will undoubtedly continue the momentum of Lisa’s strong leadership.,” said OCBA President James Derian.  “Terri’s experience and the knowledge she brings with her will be a great asset to our Board of Directors and all OCBA members. ”

“I’m very excited to join the OCBA and the Foundation and continue their proud tradition of offering top quality legal service to the community,” Gilbert said. “Lisa has done a remarkable job raising the organizations’ presence in the community throughout her time as executive director and it’s my goal to continue that progress.”

“I’m very proud of the work we accomplished and the strides we made as an organization and a team,” Elliot noted.  “The Board of Directors made a great choice in Terri and I have the utmost confidence she will continue to lead both organizations with distinction.”

The OCBA was founded in 1934 and has a long history of service to the legal profession and to the community. With approximately 3,000 members, the mission of the OCBA is to serve the professional needs of our members, improve the justice system and ensure the delivery of quality legal services to the public.

The Oakland County Bar Foundation raises funds to support law-related projects and programs, working in partnership with the OCBA. Founded in 1976, the Foundation serves the citizens of Oakland County and the legal profession by funding and promoting programs that educate the public about the role of lawyers in society and improve the accessibility and affordability of legal services.
