DTE Energy gives $5M for winter heat aid fund

DETROIT (AP) -- DTE Energy Co. says it's donating $5 million to programs aimed at helping families heat their homes this winter in the face of Michigan's record-setting cold weather.
The Detroit-based power company said Tuesday that it's giving $4 million to The Heat and Warmth Fund, better known as THAW. DTE says it's also giving $1 million to the Michigan Community Action Agency Association.
The company says the gifts could provide heating aid to as many as 10,000 households.
DTE Energy provides electrical service to 2.1 million homes and business and natural gas to 1.2 million customers in Michigan.
