Growing epidemic of human slavery and trafficking examined

The Wolverine Bar Association featured a special presentation on “Human Slavery and Trafficking: A Growing Epidemic” during its February general body membership meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 11, at the Detroit offices of Bodman LLP.

Among those taking part in the meeting were (left to right) Wayne County Circuit Court Judge Craig Strong; Wolverine President-Elect Chantez Pattman Knowles; Wayne County 36th District Court Judge David Perkins; Wolverine directors Kim Ward and Jerome Crawford; Wolverine President Ronda  Tate; Detective Sergeant Edward Price, FBI’s Southeastern Michigan Crimes Against Children (SEMCAC) Task Force; Wolverine Secretary Jehan Crump-Gibson; Wolverine director Eric Mathis; Charlotte V. Henry, Adults and Adolescents in Motion (A2IM) Nonprofit Organization; and Wolverine directors Alex Simpson and Randal Brown.

Human Trafficking is the world’s fastest growing criminal enterprise, second only to drug trafficking.  The United States serves as one of the top three destination points for this $32 billion-a-year global industry and the growth rate in the state of Michigan is alarming.

The Wolverine Bar’s meeting was designed to educate attendees on the intricacies of this dangerous epidemic and the deep impact it has on the community.
