Medical examiner asks for public's help on mummified remains
The Oakland County Medical Examiner's Office is requesting the public's assistance to identify the mummified remains of a woman found at a home on Savanna Drive in Pontiac. Any dentist who has ever treated Pia Farrenkopf, the woman who had lived at that residence and the registered owner of the vehicle in which the remains were found, is asked to contact the Medical Examiner's Office at 248-858-5097.
"Our goal is to forensically identify the deceased woman as soon as possible so that her family can have closure and she can receive a proper and dignified burial," said Oakland County Medical Examiner Dr. Ljubisa J. Dragovic. "If we can acquire her dental records, we can identify her within a day of receiving those records."
The medical examiner has determined the deceased woman had quite a bit of dental work done while she was alive.
Without dental records, the medical examiner will have to collect DNA samples from Pia Farrenkopf's family in Boston and send them to Texas for comparison to the DNA from the mummified remains. This process could take months to determine whether the deceased is indeed Pia Farrenkopf.
