The Washtenaw County Bar Association marked Law Day May 1 by coordinating volunteer attorneys
to offer people 20 minutes of free legal advice at the Ann Arbor Community Center or the Ypsilanti
District Library. Attorney Justin M Altman spent the day at the Ypsilanti District Library introducing the
19 community members who had signed up for appointments to the lawyers who had volunteered to
help them. Most of them had legal concerns, but either couldn't afford an attorney or didn't know the
first steps to take, he said. “In 20 minutes, we can give them direction and tips that really help them,”
Altman said, noting that in some cases, they didn't actually need a lawyer.
